July 14 - 17, 2025

  • A scenic view of a sunset over rolling hills in the Badlands with scattered trees and grassy fields.

    Welcome Reception

We’ll kick off the weekend with an evening reception — an opportunity for artists, models, and local guests to mingle, connect, and set the tone for the days ahead. Enjoy appetizers, a cash bar, and good conversation in a relaxed setting. Registration packets will be available for pickup during this time, so come enjoy some appetizers, grab a drink, and get to know your fellow creatives before the adventure begins.

    Western Scenes

Artists will have two and a half days at three private locations to photograph and sketch dynamic western imagery against some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the country. From rugged frontiersmen and trail-weary pioneers, to cowboys, mountain men, and Native American portrayals, our cast of characters will transport you to a bygone era. Trained film horses, stunt riders, historic wagons, and period appropriate costumes and gear will all be provided. A local historian will be available to lend insight to the era but the artists are in control—tell us what scenes and characters are on your wish list and watch as we bring them to life!

    Experience the West

Beyond the lens, the event offers a range of experiences to enrich your time in the Badlands and plenty of opportunity to enjoy the attractions of the destination town of Medora as well as the Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Adventurous participants may have the chance to saddle up and ride the trails themselves and we’ll wind down our evenings with cowboy campfires at the guest ranch—perfect for swapping stories under the stars.

Historical Characters Brought to Life

Models and actors will be appropriately costumed and ready to portray a variety of historical characters which may include:

  • Cowboys

  • Mountain men

  • Pioneers (including women)

  • Native Americans

  • Gold miners

  • Frontiersmen

Once registered, event staff will contact you to discuss what characters and scenes you hope to see. Give us your wish list and we’ll do all we can to bring them to life!
